#kamisukareview ASUS announced the latest B550 chipset motherboard from AMD that will bring the potential of PCI Express 4.0 to the mainstream segment. AMD B550 motherboards allow the use of 20 multi-functional PCIe 4.0 lines found on the AMD Ryzen Third Generation desktop processor.
The main PCIe slot on the latest ASUS B550 board is equipped with 16 PCIe 4.0 lane connectivity, and the Third Generation AMD Ryzen itself is equipped with support for four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with bandwidth up to 10 Gbps directly to the processor itself.
Interesting features are also embedded by ASUS into its B550 board, such as WiFi 6, Ethernet 2.5 Gbps, strong power supply, enhanced DRAM speed, BIOS Flashback, and support for noise reduction technology on the microphone, which is reinforced with AI.
The new AI noise prone technology works by applying sophisticated filters to ensure background noise can be filtered cleanly. B550 chip itself gets an increase to PCIe 3.0 for the default path. This update makes the B550 a tempting platform for middle-class fabricators around the world.
In this AMD B550 Motherboard series, ASUS presents a total of 11 motherboard variants divided into three categories. The ROG Strix Board fills the top class with innovative features such as efficient and cool VRM, enhanced audio, 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity and WiFi 6 with a controller from Intel.

ROG Strix B550-E Gaming
The ASUS ROG Strix B550-E Gaming is designed with a focus on high-performance AMD processors and the arrangement of two or three expansion cards. The AM4 socket is enclosed with 14 + 2-level power VRM for performance reliability at a continuous load of multi-core CPUs, while the enhanced PCIe x16 SafeSlots supports multi-GPU configurations such as two-way SLI or three-way CrossFireX for gamers and creators.
Six fan connectors and special AiO connectors and pumps allow for simple and complex installation as needed. Q-Fan software control with automatic fan speed detection and multiple presets makes it easy to reduce temperature and noise levels.
Dual M.2 slot that supports SSD lengths up to 110 mm in length, equipped with heatsinks to overcome the heat generated and decreased performance when I / O loads are high. ROG Strix B550-I Gaming
ROG Strix B550-I Gaming is designed for small dimension PCs with high performance capture. By design, the Mini-ITX only provides space for a 4.0 x16 PCIe slot, but its small size also provides other advantages. The Strix B550-I Gaming can drive compatible DIMM speeds up to 5100 MHz and more by utilizing shorter paths between the memory slot and CPU.
8 + 2 level VRM can meet the needs of the Third Generation Ryzen chip well. Active cooling on VRM and an eight-pin connector with our ProCool II design ensures stable power supply on a compact Mini-ITX board.
The integrated I / O panel is paired with USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and Type-A USB ports, an Intel I225-V 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connector, Intel AX200 WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. The AMD B550 motherboard on the ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus is equipped with an 8 + 2 DrMOS voltage regulator module and several large heatsinks mounted on top of the VRM, chipset, and M.2 slot to ensure all major components stay cool when in high load.
The main PCIe 4.0 x16 slot is equipped with a SafeSlot amplifier to hold extra-heavy weight graphics cards, while the additional ProCool power connector with solid-core pins offers peace of mind when using a power-hungry CPU.
The two available M.2 slots support SSDs up to 110 mm in length, while the duet PCIe x16 slot supports CrossFireX configurations. ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus (Wi-Fi) takes many of the features found in the TUF Faming B550-Plus and integrates them into smaller Micro-ATX dimensions. This board still provides a pair of PCIe x16 slots and M.2 slots like its ATX sibling. The main difference is in one of the M.2 slots which only supports SSD lengths up to 80 mm. Instead, this model offers a more attractive price as an adjustment to its dimensions.
TUF Gaming B550M-Plus comes in two variants: with or without a controller and an Intel AX200 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 antenna. No matter which variant is chosen, 2.5 Gbps connectivity features, Realtek S1200A audio with DTS® Custom support, a fan connector, and Gen 2 addressable RGB LED connectors remain available.
ASUS Prime B550-Plus
The sophisticated ASUS Prime B550-Plus motherboard is ready to complement a mid-range gaming device or function as a solid AMD powered productivity system. This model works well with a middle-class Ryzen CPU, and it is equipped with a heatsink on every VRM and chipset to ensure stability.
Two PCIe x16 slots support CrossFireX if users need a dual-GPU configuration on their system. While the two M.2 slots support SSD lengths up to 110 mm. If the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports aren't enough, there is a ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 card that can be paired to bring more peripheral bandwidth.
ASUS Prime B550M-A (Wi-Fi)
Space limitations in offices and rooms make the ASUS Prime B550M-A (Wi-Fi) a better choice as an alternative to ATX that requires more space. The variant of the Prime B550-Plus offers almost the same specifications, but in the form of a smaller micro-ATX.
Considering the WiFi 6 standard, this motherboard is very feasible to utilize frequency waves in situations where users require prior connectivity cables. For this reason, ASUS presents the Prime B550M-A with Gigabit Ethernet only, or in a version with Intel AX200 WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
ASUS Prime B550M-K
The compact microATX form factor allows users to save space without having to sacrifice expansion capabilities. PCIe x16 and M.2 slots on this board are also connected directly to the processor with the latest generation of PCIe 4.0 connectivity to get maximum bandwidth on future devices.
This board can have two M.2 roles, one of which supports up to 110 mm length. The rear I / O panel contains two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, ensuring that the connected peripherals can get high bandwidth.
