Gadgetren – ASUS Indonesia has officially brought the ROG Zephyrus G14 to Indonesia by bringing a myriad of innovations that might change the gaming laptop landscape.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 itself was first introduced at CES 2020 where it immediately became the talk of the visitors who attended. How not, the latest laptop from the ROG Zephyrus line looks very stunning while carrying specifications that cannot be underestimated.

The main thing that will immediately attract attention when you first see the ROG Zephyrus G14 is of course thanks to its unique and luxurious design, precisely again on the cover with ErgoLift which is equipped with AniMe Matrix.

The latest feature that cannot be found on other laptops is a collection of 1,251 mini LEDs that can display various types of animations, texts, and effects on the cover of the ROG Zephyrus G14.

Previously, the ROG line of laptops was identical to the bright red eye logo that greatly accentuates the gamers accent, AniMe Matrix was more calm but looked more 'high-tech' which was guaranteed to make people around curious to look more closely.

There are 256 levels of brightness possessed by each of these mini LEDs so that each animation will be seen clearly despite the environmental conditions of many light sources.

ASUS also provides several presets or templates that can be used instantly. Interestingly again, AniMe Matrix has an equalizer mode that will move to the song and other audio sources.

Of course users can also customize what they want to display on AniMe Matrix whether in the form of images, text, or others. Users can combine various effects at once or make it more informative by displaying hours and notifications, all can be adjusted according to taste.

Turning to the overall design, the ROG Zephyrus G14 that I tested was present in Moonlight White (there is another Eclipse Gray variant) that makes it look very calm like a snow princess from the future under the moonlight.

The minimalist design makes the ROG Zephyrus G14 suitable for use by all people and still has the characteristics of gaming for those who want to show it off. One of them is the Republic of Gamers placard which is posted in the lower left corner of the closing section.

That way it will not be a problem if you want to bring this one laptop into a formal meeting or the like because it will be compatible with whatever style you use. Meanwhile, if you want a gaming party, you can immediately turn on the AniMe Matrix to show your identity as a gamer.

In addition to soft white color, ROG Zephyrus G14 also has a gray accent for half the body which gives the impression that this laptop is sturdy and made of quality material which is certainly true when holding it and feeling it directly.

Just like other relatives in the Zephyrus family, this laptop has a fairly small body for the size of a gaming laptop. Its weight is only 1.6 kg with a thickness of 1.79 cm which makes it very competitive with the ranks of Ultrathin laptops. As a result, ROG Zephyrus G14 is very easy to put in a bag to carry anywhere.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Port

Despite having a slim body, ASUS has succeeded in providing a fairly complete port starting from two USB Type-C, two USB Type-A, HDMI 2.0b, audio combo jack, and Kensington lock. That way this laptop supports a variety of devices today, including connecting two monitors at once thanks to the HDMI port and USB Type-C.

Interestingly, the USB Type-C on the left side turns out to support the Power Delivery feature so that the laptop can be recharged using a charger up to 65W if desired. But of course to be able to deliver maximum performance from the ROG Zephyrus G14 requires a 180W default charger provided in the sales package.

Continue to the main part, ROG Zephyrus G14 will immediately present a 14-inch screen that looks attractive with a thin bezel. The screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with support for refresh rates up to 120Hz to bring the best experience to users.

Having a high refresh rate is certainly very important for gamers when playing action games that require fast reactions because animated movements are displayed much smoother and input is more responsive than screens with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Not only that, the screen of the ROG Zephyrus G14 also has a PANTONE Validated Display certificate because it has been calibrated directly to provide accurate colors. Therefore, this laptop can also be used by content creators thanks to its superior screen.

To support the screen with a high refresh rate, ASUS buried the AMD Ryzen 7-4800HS processor with Zen 2 architecture which has 8 cores and 16 threads and is manufactured in the 7nm FinFET fabrication. The use of AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile Series is also one of the reasons why ROG Zephyrus G14 can have a slim body.

At the same time there is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics card with 4GB VRAM for graphics processing and 8GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB capacity M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD storage on the ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401I variant that the Gadgetren team tested.

For those of you who need even higher performance, ASUS also has another variant of the ROG Zephyrus G14 which offers the highest Ryzen 9 4900HS processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and M.2 NVMe PCIe 1TB SSD.

The combination of specifications allows the ROG Zephyrus G14 to provide optimal best performance for various users. Its powerful performance is also reflected in the benchmark results obtained.

In the 3DMark application, ROG Zephyrus G14 scores 9,432 points for Fire Strike testing with an average of 48FPS and 27,800 points on Night Raid with an average of 170 FPS. As for the ability of the processor itself, it gets 3,781 points on the Cinebench R20.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Benchmark Graph

As a laptop that carries the name Rebublic of Gamers, of course the ROG Zephyrus G14 should be tested for its ability to actually run heavy games. One of them is Shadow of Tomb Raider made by Crystal Dynamics.

Given the relatively slim body, this laptop was able to provide performance that is quite extraordinary. This laptop can give an average of 55FPS at High presets and 49FPS at Highest presets at native resolutions when tested using the benchmark features provided.

When played directly, the game runs very smoothly without any lag or broken. In addition there is no problem of pop ups, both objects and textures that interfere due to its fast performance.

The loading process is very short so you don't need to wait too long each time you have to reload when making mistakes that cause characters to die or continue to the next place.

The next test running the new Control game was released in 2019 then. This game made by Remedy Entertainment is praised for its stunning visual and physics effects that will test the limits of CPU and GPU capabilities.

Using the highest graphic settings, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is able to run this one game in the range of 40-50 FPS in various segments without obstacles, including even when there are many particle effects.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Control Combat

In some cutscene, this game even runs more than 100FPS so that the ability of the screen owned by ROG Zephyrus G14 can be felt to the maximum. No image appears to be split apart due to GPU-generated images and what is displayed on the asynchronous monitor that is commonly found when FPS is running too high.

Seeing from this ability, ROG Zephyrus G14 is guaranteed to be able to bulldoze all the games that exist today easily. High performance is certain to be able to take advantage of the 120Hz screen it has in games that are classified as lighter such as eSport games.

The performance also provides a pleasant experience when using ROG Zephyrus G14 for daily work and other activities. Every application can be opened quickly and the system feels very responsive which will certainly help users to be more productive.

Plus the keyboard with backlit lights provided this time is very comfortable to use for typing for a long time. Although it feels a little soft, but still has a good travel distance and each button is stable and does not shake so that it helps to be able to type more accurately.

However, the laptop will feel quite hot when running heavy load applications or have been used for a long time due to the material from the body itself. Moreover, there are two vents located on the left and right where the surface feels the most hot.

Even so, the cooling solution that ASUS presents in the ROG Zephyrus G14 is quite successful in maintaining a stable system and component temperatures so that it can provide optimal performance. Users can also adjust how the fan works whether it's Silent, Performance, Turbo, to Manual which will provide different fan performance and noise levels.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Armory Crate

Just as usual, Armory Crate is the central obstacle for ROG laptops where there are settings and features that can be used. Besides of course managing the appearance of AniMe Matrix, you can activate the Aura Sync feature to create a separate profile for each need.

After seeing how the performance provided by the ROG Zephyrus G14, battery life is a particular concern considering this segment has often been the scourge of a gaming laptop so far.

But it seems this is slowly changing because lately began to appear gaming laptops that have sufficient battery life and ROG Zephyrus G14 entered into the list. Thanks to the use of the AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile Series processor, this laptop is quite efficient in consuming power.

Meanwhile, when all AniMe Matrix features are lit and the backlit keyboard is turned on, it scores 3 hours 48 minutes. This figure is similar to those reported by ASUS where AniMe Matrix can drain about 25% of the battery when active so users should set their use in Armory Crate as optimal as possible.

Even so, the number is above the average mainstream gaming laptop which is usually less than 2 hours. That way, ROG Zephyrus G14 still goes through one learning session or meeting without having to always be connected to an electrical outlet.

This laptop is also equipped with a 160W adapter for charging power so users only need to wait about 1 hour and 25 minutes so that the battery is fully charged again from what was left 19%.

Overall, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 can be said to be an almost perfect gaming laptop for those who want a balance between high performance, style, and portability. Users who like to express themselves will also be satisfied with the latest AniMe Matrix features that can be customized as desired.

Certainly, this laptop can easily scout all your digital matters at any time. This time ASUS succeeded in presenting a device that can be used by all groups without forgetting one segment because the ROG Zephyrus G14 looks tempting from whatever angle you look at it.
