From top to bottom, the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 30 Series has received a number of improvements to deliver the next wave of innovation in thermal design and accommodate the impressive NVIDIA Ampere architecture.

The new casing with metal accents includes three Axial-tech fans which have been tuned to fulfill specialist roles. The central fan utilizes a full-height barrier ring and 13 fan blades that provide increased static pressure to push air through the heatsink fins and onto the GPU heat spreader.

Two fans on the sides are equipped with 11 blades and a half-height barrier ring to allow for more lateral deployment and to provide better airflow through the cooling array. Turbulence between fans is reduced thanks to reversing the direction of rotation of the center fan.

A larger heatsink that fills most of the 2.9 slot card footprint which is designed for increased airflow. To heat the mold and enter the heatsink array, the surface of the heat spreader is polished with MaxContact technology, which increases smoothness at a microscopic level.

The extra flatness allows for better contact with the mold for increased thermal transfer.

Upgrades aren't limited to coolant arrays – top-shelf capacitors, chokes and power stages easily produce hundreds of watts in an instant.

Dubbed the Super Alloy Power II, these components are soldered onto the PCB using an exclusive ASUS Auto-Extreme manufacturing process, ensuring the smooth connection of each card meets our stringent specifications.

Also included is the FanConnect II header which allows PWM fans to be adjusted based on CPU and GPU temperatures, providing extra intake or exhaust for demanding 3D tasks and compute workloads.

Builders looking for a quick and simple way to adjust the default card behavior can flick the onboard Dual Bios switch to choose between a software-less “performance” and “silent” profile.

Another easy-to-use feature is an onboard voltage-sensing circuit that monitors the PSU rail voltage. This circuit is fast enough to catch transients that cause the rail voltage to drop too low. When that happens, the red LED will light up to indicate a power supply problem, making it easier to debug the source of the crash during gameplay.

The GPU front has also been upgraded. Addressable RGB elements can be customized with Armory Crate software, and a Strix reinforced metal frame adds a literal layer of resilience.

Flipping the card will reveal a metal back plate with wide vents. The vents allow hot air to escape into the chassis exhaust fan instead of being recycled back into the GPU cooler.

Underneath the GPU, brackets provide consistent mounting pressure between the die and the heat spreader. Stainless steel is used for the I / O bracket to protect the port and provide a more secure mount.

Fan rotation has been optimized to reduce turbulence and the stop mode makes all three fans stop at low temperatures. Beneath it, independent heatsinks for GPU and memory keep thermals tightly under control.
