Gadgetren – Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 was officially presented by Xiaomi in the country along with several other devices in early November 2020.
Priced at IDR 249,000 at launch, True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 seems to be an option for those of you who want a TWS (True Wireless Stereo) device. Especially if you already use Xiaomi cellphones.
But before asking for her hand, it's good to see the following Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 review to make sure whether it suits you or not.
Review Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2
- Audio – 7/10
- Battery – 8/10
- Features – 6/10
- Design – 8/10
7.3 / 10
The Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is a pretty promising TWS device thanks to its affordability and its ability to produce bass. With a minimalist design, of course there are still compromises that Xiaomi has taken to be able to present it at this price.
- Okay battery life
- Responsive command button
- Minimalist design and fits on the ear
- Bass kicking in
- Prices are quite affordable
- Not provided with a micro USB cable
- A little delay when gaming
- Low frequency is less than optimal
- Limited command features
Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 appears with a casing body that is no less compact than the Realme Buds Air thanks to its dimensions of only 62 x 40 x 27.2 mm. Likewise for each earbud which has a relatively small size.
This certainly makes this TWS device made by Xiaomi easier to store in your trouser pocket without making it look too sticky. Its weight is quite light so it doesn't really feel like an extra burden when stored or used.
The black matte finish makes Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 look minimalistic and will be compatible with various other electronic devices. It's just that the plastic material used feels quite fragile so that it reduces its charm when held.
In the casing, there is a charging indicator light to find out whether it is full or not. But unfortunately the light does not turn on when the casing is opened so it is a little difficult to find out the remaining battery that is owned.
While on the back there is a micro USB port which is used for charging. Xiaomi does not provide a micro USB cable in the sales package so you have to prepare yourself, including the adapter.
Turning to the earbuds, Xiaomi chooses a design that is quite different from its competitors. Each earbud is no bigger than the tip of the arch so that it fits snugly against the ear.
The earbuds hold their position quite well when I listen to music while walking, but they come off when I shake my head quickly. Xiaomi itself provides three sizes of tips (S, M, and L) in the sales package so that they can be more tailored to the user's ears.
Both the left and right earbuds each have buttons on the outer side that can be used to give commands including single press to play / pause music, press once to answer / hang up calls, hold to reject incoming calls, and double press to activate assistance features. sound.
To be able to use Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is fairly easy, where you only need to pair it like any other device via a Bluetooth connection. Without the need to press any buttons, the earbuds will be immediately detected when removed from the case.
After pressing the pairing button, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 can be used immediately to listen to music, watch movies, or play games. If you experience problems, you can hold the side button for 15 seconds to perform the reset process.
What needs to be noted, Xiami does not provide a special application so that the information provided is very limited, ranging from battery capacity to feature functions.
Therefore, I had a little trouble knowing quickly how much battery I had left. At least, the indicator lights on both earbuds can help a little because they will be white when fully charged and red when charged.
The ability to connect directly or Auto Connect that is present on Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 makes the overall user experience feel very practical.
I don't need to think about anything else because I can open and use it right away without a hitch. Moreover, the Bluetooth 5.0 support that is presented provides a signal range that is sufficient.
Regarding the audio quality itself, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 in its price class is able to produce sufficient and clear sound. Promising a 7.2mm sound unit and DSP Noise Cancellation technology, what is being offered is at the price requested.
Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 has very bassy audio characteristics, especially when listening to EDM genre music. Even so, vocals still sound clear when listening to Pop music.
It's just that it needs attention, the low frequencies are unfortunately quite submerged so that some instruments are sometimes not heard clearly because they are covered by a too strong bass. But for this price class, it doesn't seem to be a problem because many people are more concerned with bass.
The Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is also able to seal the ear holes well so that the ambient sound doesn't really interfere with the music listening experience, although it's not as good as Active Noise Cancellation technology. This airtight seal is also one of the reasons why the bass effect that is given is so pronounced
Surely those of you who are happy with powerful bass will definitely be satisfied with this TWS device. In fact, I can say that the given bass level gives a little cinematic effect like being in the cinema at high volume levels.
Interestingly, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 is equipped with capabilities that allow it to automatically switch between Mono and Stereo modes depending on user usage. However I feel there is no difference in audio at all when using one earbud or both.
Moreover, this TWS device from Xiaomi is also not equipped with a proximity sensor so it cannot detect whether the device is being used or not and always plays music if it hasn't been turned off.
Meanwhile, for those of you who plan to use them while playing games, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 seems to have latency above average because the sound effects are a little late by a fraction of a second. However, I consider this to be tolerable and won't really interfere with the gaming experience.
Then what about the durability of the battery? Equipped with a capacity of 43mAh for each earbud and 300mAh for the case, Xiaomi claims that this device can be used for up to 4 hours or a total of 12 hours.
In actual testing, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 was able to listen to Spotify at 100% volume up to about 4 hours 5 minutes continuously. Not bad enough for its relatively small size.
As a result, what Xiaomi claims has proven true in terms of battery life. Meanwhile, for charging it takes about 1.5 hours, both the earbuds and the case to return to full.
Overall Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 looks promising for users who want to experience a practical and easy TWS. There are some things that I quite like, but on the other hand there are things that still need to be improved.
Looking at the price it is priced at, I think the things that are compromised are understandable if they feel they don't really matter. To be sure, Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic 2 can provide a more comfortable audio experience.
